Weaving between the melancholic story-telling of folk and sweat-drenched vocals of rock and roll, the music of Joshua & The Holy Rollers is equal parts lullabye and banger. NOAH EARLE - 04/29/2019

Noah Earle

I have long wanted to be a farmer/poet, but it turns out I’m better at making up songs than writing poetry. I used to travel from coast to coast playing these songs, but it became clear upon the birth of my second son that I should shift the music portion of my dream to the backburner. Despite all the demands of farm life, I still get a chance from time to time to play music, mostly for community events in central Missouri.

BEASTS WITH NO NAME - 04/22/2019

Beasts with no name are a great band that I discovered recently but they are no longer together and there is very little about them on the net. Too bad, they were very promising.
Anyhow, enjoy them during this broadcast.

NICHOLAS NAIOTI - 04/15/2019...

Nicholas Naioti
Facebook

Nicholas Naioti is a multimedia artist from Fairfield, Iowa.

His artistic focus is to cultivate minimalist, approachable concepts in a way that instigates nostalgia and a sense of wonder. He’s been making music and art for 20 years, and has released over a dozen albums with different projects. Nicholas studied audio science and music theory, and has been engineering, mixing and mastering audio and video projects for most of his life.

PAUL WEBER and THE SCRAPPERS - 04/08/2019...

Facebook

Columbia-based Paul Weber and the Scrappers is made up by vocalist/guitarist/harpist Paul Weber, guitarist Dave Dearnley, drummer Justin Hickerson and bassist Jesse Mudd. The quartet plays original honky tonk — the kind of music that transports you to a dusty middle-of-nowhere dive bar and makes foot-tapping an involuntary reaction. Delivering ’60s-style country music complete with bitter lyrics about heartbreak, slow tempos and minor chords, Paul Weber and the Scrappers are a must-see.

Radkey - 04/01/2019

Radkey

The Brothers Radke grew up in a shitty little pink house in St. Joseph, Missouri. Homeschooled. Bored with nothing to do but listen to their Father's records and start a band. Radkey is a rock band. And they kick ass.

The Underground Youth - 03/25/2019

TUY

It’s been 10 years since Craig Dyer titled his creative project, The Underground Youth, and started releasing his lo-fi psychedelic recordings for free online. Following the prolific output of 2009’s ‘Morally Barren’ and ‘Voltage’ and 2010’s ‘Mademoiselle’ and ‘Sadovaya’, a loyal fan base quickly developed and never stopped growing.

Jack Grelle

“A progressive honky-tonk hero arriving at just the right time in Trump’s America”- Rolling Stone

Le'Ponds - 03/11/2019

Le'Ponds

Lisa Houdei is Le'Ponds. The writer, voice, guitarist and sometimes bassist and drummer. Nice harmonies and a soft style that I really like. Surf rock girl stuff with a 70's, tie-dyed feel. A wonderful up and coming artist from St. Louis, MO.

The
                        Babe Rainbow

The Babe Rainbow is an excellent Australian band.

Cave

Cave is an American, primarily instrumental, psychedelic drone band based in Chicago, Illinois.
Composed of guitarist/organist Cooper Crain, Guitarist Jeremy Freeze and Bassist Dan Browning, Drummer Rex McMurry and multi-instrumentalist, Rob Frye. The band was formed in Columbia, Missouri in 2006.

The Whimshurst's Machine - 02/04/2019

Whimshursts

The Wimshurst's Machine is an eclectic, award-winning 7-members italian electro-acoustic "steam" orchestra based in Torino.

The band is a project born by the music passion of each component and a mad idea, developed between friends and colleagues with little time to play together "in person". Together with the "good old" way to make music (jamming), TWM mixes real instruments and synthetic sounds even during live events.

MARY GAUTHIER - 01/28/2019

The Many
                    Colored Death

Her catalog speaks for itself. Just an amazing and heartwrenching songwriter, singer and human being

The Many
                    Colored Death

The Butlers...Here to fill your ears with milky, musical goodness.

The Many
                    Colored Death

The Many Colored Death is a alt rock trio based out of Columbia, Missouri. Formed in 2010, the band has internalized the aesthetic and influence of acts such as Soundgarden, King’s X, Rush and Foo Fighters, then spun those elements out into a fresh new style. Described by one fan as “a silky mixture of 70’s rock and early 90’s grunge.” Featuring a rhythm section that would make John Bonham and John Paul Jones proud, and a guitarist/vocalist who is equal parts David Gilmour, King Buzzo, and Chris Cornell, their brand of rock is both quiet and loud, dark and light.

Born in Utah and raised in West Texas, Ray Lynch (aka Raymond Lynch) spent the earlier part of his musical career as a performer on the classical guitar and the lute. As a composer and producer, Lynch has won 3 Billboard Awards, written five albums, and sold over 2 million albums without the benefit of live performances or videos.

Columbia, Missouri trio The Hooten Hallers are a high-energy blues-rock band known for hard-traveling and wild live shows, with a seemingly endless tour schedule. The myriad of influences in their music incorporates elements of rhythm & blues, rock’n’roll, honky tonk, jazz, soul, and punk with a thematic penchant for the strange and the unexplained. Their live shows take the listener on a seamless ride from unapologetically raucous blues on the lap steel and bass sax, to a sweet three part harmony country ballad, to a romping dance number.

Dale Watson, keeper of the true country music flame, latest album Call Me Insane, was recorded in Austin with veteran producer Lloyd Maines (Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker, etc.). The Austin-based honky-tonker carries on in the tradition of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson with his “Ameripolitan” brand of American roots music.

The Cactus Blossoms sound uncannily like a sibling harmony act that just stepped off the stage of the Grand Ol' Opry or the Louisiana Hayride in the '40s or '50s, and there's a good reason for that -- guitarists and singers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey are brothers, and their voices fit together in a way that suggests a modern day approximation of what the Everly Brothers and the Louvin Brothers could deliver.

Beak are an English electronic music band, consisting of Geoff Barrow (of Portishead) with Billy Fuller (Robert Plant) and Will Young (Moon Gangs), who replaced Matt Williams (MXLX, Fairhorns) in 2016.

Beak released their self-titled debut album on 16 November 2009. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in Bristol, England.

Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings is an Ozark Mountain Soul Roots n Roll group from the hills of Arkansas. Lead vocalist and songwriter, Opal Agafia, entered the music scene in January of 2015. Shortly after playing in local joints with various musicians, Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings, developed into a full string band–fiddle, mandolin, guitar, dobro, telecaster guitar, electric bass, and drums. Together this band puts on a high energy show while focusing on the words and instrumental combos.

My great friend Bart.

Aina Cook
                    Band

Instagram   Facebook    Soundcloud

Aina Cook isn’t beating around the bush. From the first notes of her band’s self-titled new record to the last song title, her musical ways and means are clear.

Within the first two seconds of opener “Brand New Knife,” Cook conveys curiosity and emotion through wordless vocalizing. Just fifteen seconds in, she ups the ante with a growling statement of purpose.

Skip to the end of the record and you’ll find closer “Born to Sing the Blues.” The record’s ten songs connect the dots between its first sounds and closing argument. Cook possesses a powerhouse voice, and she spends it exhorting listeners to reach inside and discover their own wells of strength, soul, melancholy and regret.

A former member of the Columbia music scene now based in St. Louis, Cook’s passionate, expressive sound recalls modern blues and soul royalty such as Susan Tedeschi and Sharon Jones as well as more pop-oriented artists such as Leona Lewis and Gavin DeGraw.

THE RUM DRUM RAMBLERS - 11/05/2018

The Rum Drum Ramblers
Facebook    Soundcloud

From Christian Schaeffer at the Riverfront Times:

The backward-glancing trio Rum Drum Ramblers is most commonly thought of as a blues band, and certainly, the young men in the group seek to revive a certain strand of acoustic, prewar blues music. But after listening to its second album, Mean Scene, one could argue that the Ramblers is a soul band; just listen for a few minutes to guitarist and singer Mat Wilson’s sweet, husky voice and feel the easy rhythm of the best early R&B singers. Or perhaps it’s best to describe it as a country act: There’s so much twang-bangin’ and swift-pickin’ on “Nothin’ New” that Buck Owens is probably tipping his ten-gallon hat to these fellows from the great beyond. But then, terming the Rum Drum Ramblers as country (or blues or soul) would ignore the jazzy underpinnings that Joey Glynn pumps out of his sonorous upright bass and the forceful blowing of its guest horn players. Better yet to put genre tags aside and let the Ramblers interpretation of American folk idioms fan you like a humid breeze...

ANDREW RYAN - 10/22/2018

Andrew
                          Ryan
Facebook    Soundcloud    Instagram

Andrew Ryan is a St. Louis-based producer turned musician after being in the industry for 13 years. Ryan is a graduate of the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences (CRAS) and shortly afterward landed an internship with indie rock recording legend Steve Albini at his Chicago studio, Electrical Audio.

Ryan released his freshman album "Across Currents" on September 29th, 2017.  The album is meant to be a shadow of Ryan's life over the previous years touching subjects like his relationship with his daughter, the loss of one of his best friends, the general pressures of life, and the restlessness leading up to this point. It has a middle-of-the-road tone that mixes alt-country with elements of indie rock. Songs like "Take Aim" combine quiet, guitar picking with soothing cello, toy-like glockenspiel, and melodic piano to create sounds you'd hear in "Perks of a Wallflower" or "13 Reasons Why." Other songs such as "Fire" stay true to the indie rock feel with feedback and reverse guitars driving a steady, almost anthem-like melody. The 12-song album was written and mixed by Ryan and later cut to vinyl by six-time, Grammy award winning producer, Jeff Powell.

Notably, Ryan and his band have supported Rayland Baxter, Jay Allen, Andrew Bryant (of Water Liars).

RAE FITZGERALD - 10/08/2018...

Rae
                          Fitzgerald
Facebook

Urgency is a friend to Rae Fitzgerald. While much of contemporary music shies away from emotionality and embraces a cool detachment, this 27 year-old’s intricate—and at times, eviscerating—lyric-work forces the listener to embrace universal emotions of sorrow, hope and bewildered wonder.

Born south of St. Louis and raised in the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama, Fitzgerald has honed her craft in iconic cities of musical innovation. She’s spent extended periods of time in Bakersfield, California, and, most recently, Austin, Texas, though she considers Columbia, Missouri home.

Lyrically heavy, the crux of Fitzgerald’s work is the autobiographical depiction of life changing situations, relationships and observations. This creative writing major’s words are heavy-hitting—a strength she accentuates with dreamy vocals, ethereal melodies and grooving beats.

BLIND MELON...06/23/08...

In recent years, the tale of Blind Melon has taken a dramatic turn – from an abrupt and tragic end, to a rebirth and reconnection with their legion of fans. No matter how you slice it, the group was responsible for some of the most memorable and pure-sounding rock music of the ‘90s. And with their reformation in 2006 with singer Travis Warren, Blind Melon are poised to pick up exactly where they left off a decade earlier...

BEANGROWERS...06/16/08...

Amongst the broadening horizons of the European music scene you will find the Beangrowers. Hailing from the Mediterranean island of Malta, this female-fronted three-piece has become known for their unique style and infectious mixture of guitar-based pop and quirky keyboard sounds: think Blondie meets Joy Division. "Keeper of the angelic vocal chords" – front-woman/lead guitarist Alison Galea is up there alongside PJ and Nina Persson. and supported by band-mates Mark Sansone (bass, synths) and Ian Schranz (drums, synths)...

D NUMBERS...06/09/08...

D Numbers is the life's work of three close friends who live in Santa Fe, NM. Since the band's inception in 2002, D Numbers has been steadily forging their own path in a jaded and post-everything modern music scene. It's not the kind of music that can be described in a nice little catch phrase, although some have tried ("prog-bot" being one of the more colorful attempts made by one Dallas writer). D Numbers' broad range of influences and long process of group development have led to a complex and unique hybrid of instrumental rock and electronica. Their powerful live shows have earned them a diverse and loyal following, while their début CD, Lightparade, proves that the trio easily bridges the span between the stage and the studio.

MICHAEL MCGINTY...06/02/08...

Local singer/songwriter from columbia, missouri...

CORRADO ROSSI...05/26/08...

I have an extensive background in both Classical music and electronic music technologies.

After the Classical studies and the Piano Degree I started to dedicate my spare time to hard-disk recording and Ambient & Soundtrack music, composing unique instrumental pieces with a blend of piano, guitars, synths, bass and chill-out rhythms and arrange them to the final product.

I still continue composing new Piano solo songs, I love improvising at my Piano!

SUN KIL MOON...05/12/08...

The image Kozelek (Sunkiommon) paints of his life as both an artist and just an average guy is very attractive. For fans, it reinforces the idea that the honesty we hear in his songs is actually there in the person; it hasn't been fabricated for the sake of the art. And when I teasingly suggest, at the end of our conversation, that the track "Gentle Moon" from the highly anticipated Ghosts of the Great Highway -- the debut album under Kozelek's newly formed Sun Kil Moon moniker -- deserves to be the love theme for every romantic comedy released over the holiday season, his response reveals a smile that cracks the sometimes tough exterior on the other end of the line: "That would be nice."

PERRYCOMOTATUS...05/05/08...

Real nice album from Mick Watts...aka...Perrycomotatus...

BLUE RODEO...04/28/08...

Canada's most popular roots rock band, Blue Rodeo became a veritable institution in their home country, although they never quite moved beyond cult status in the U.S. Their sound was a basic blend of country, folk, and rock, but with a definite pop appeal that underlined their devotion to later-period Beatles, in addition to expected touchstones like Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, and the Band.

QUICHUA MASHIS...04/14/08...

Quichua Mashis is the culmination of fifthteen years of dedication and determination. The members have worked together playing traditional and current Music From The Andes Mountains in Europe, South America, Japan, Canada and the United States. Since 1993 they have been firmly established in the Northwest with Seattle as their home base. The members are Quichua Indians from northern Ecuador. The music they share has been passed down through the generations from the Grandfathers. Many of the instruments are handmade in traditional ways with native materials; bamboo, sheep hooves, goat skins and armadillo shells. If the instruments are not captivating enough their sound will surely entrance you.

THE TRAGICALLY HIP...03/31/08...

There’s this fuckin’ band you’ve gotta see, They used to scare the livin’ shit outta me!” An Inch An Hour In March 1988, The Tragically Hip was a band you had to see. The Kingston quintet's reputation had preceded it to Winnipeg, first stop on its inaugural cross-Canada tour. Having spent the previous two years barnstorming the pubs, clubs and beer halls of Ontario, the group had released an eight-song, eponymous mini-album. Smalltown Bringdown and Last American Exit were being played at local radio and a feature on The New Music had prepped Prairie audiences for a young band that played no-frills rock 'n' roll. Rob Baker, Gordon Downie, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois and Gord Sinclair looked like a gang -- a T-shirts and jeans group in an age of teased hair and spandex. Their sound was an improbable, riffing roar that left mouths agape. Downie's lithe, sweat-soaked performances transfixed audiences...

MARTIN BALL...03/17/08...

Martin first began to post his music on the internet in early 2000 on the then-dynamic Mp3.com. His music proved popular on the site, and for some time he had the top rated song in the Santa Barbara area, as well as on the goth and shoegazer charts. When Mp3.com collapsed and was gobbled up into the mainstream music site that it is today, rather than the burgeoning independent community that it had been, Martin had to look elsewhere for places to host his music...

D Numbers' broad range of influences and long process of group development have led to a complex and unique hybrid of instrumental rock and electronica. Their powerful live shows have earned them a diverse and loyal following, while their début CD, Lightparade, proves that the trio easily bridges the span between the stage and the studio.

ASYLUM STREET SPANKERS...01/21/08...

The magnificently indefinable Asylum Street Spankers began in 1994 at a booze and hallucinogen-fueled party at the Dabbs Hotel in Llano, Texas. There Christina Marrs and Guy Forsyth met Wammo. During a night spent singing and playing along the banks of the Llano River they made a pact to keep the all-night-sing-along-anything-goes spirit of that party alive. Upon returning to Austin they gathered a few like-minded pals and began playing free shows at clubs and busking on the Guadalupe Street Drag. (Guadalupe was known as Asylum Street because it led to the state, um, hospital. A Spanker is someone who can play their instrument vigorously and proficiently.)...MORE...

THE STARLINGS...12/24/07...

Led by the magnetic harmonies and songwriting of Joy Mills and Tom Parker, this murmuration combines lyrics and vocals that are all at once wistful and fierce, haunting and soothing. Their approach is contemporary and inventive, inspired by the classics of country, folk and Appalachia. Tasteful lines of guitar, banjo, harmonica and mandolin give front porch flavors to the songs, while Aimee Zoe Tubbs provides the solid and stylish foundation on drums and backing vocals. Elemental themes create The Starlings' solid repertoire. From a pin-dropping ballad to a foot-stomping barnburner, their images linger – empty boxcars, twilight on the prairie, divining rods, river beds, the long drive home, and an underlying wonder at the mystery of it all.

With its sassy high-hat, aggressive lyrics, snappy guitar, and Locke’s flights into falsetto vocalismo, the track conjures old-school, FM-radio soul while also sounding … new. Writing a bio must be something like writing a song -- a story. My story. So here goes . . .
I was born near the waters that run down south. The wide Missouri to the Gulf Coast Mouth. . .
From birth to age four I was lucky enough to frequently sit at the feet of my dear ol’ pop in Parkville, Missouri, while he strummed his guitar with his brothers. Grandpa Rausch with a mountain dulcimer in his lap or a harmonica to his lips, mama singin’ along . . . I danced in the cigarette smoke and played ball in the house with my sister and cousins. There was a bloody nose here and there and babies a-cryin’, but above all the music never stopped.

After picking up the guitar at 23, I taught myself to sing through my soul. I took to the holy road and spent the last nine years researching how things seem to work on earth. After growing through The Machine, fighting censorship, and losing both my parents to Cancer, in a sudden two years, I’m still learning how to alter reality and live in the now...I'm just now beginning to understand what the songs are trying to say to me, codes for the journey Home. The Dharma Dog gave me his eye, Mama gave me herself and the clouds and I found my Baba Buffalo (Anthony Kieraldo) at the cafe in front of a tennis ball lemon tree. That's when I watched another kind of White Buffalo be born, the kind that has people for legs, dreams for a brain, music for a heart and the movement shaking through it when it wakes.

It was January of 2003, and the new Marcy Playground CD was already three years overdue. A bunch of new demos had been recorded in the basement studio at my house in Pennsylvania. We had subversively leaked some of them to our fans through the Marcy website the year before. The response was immediate and overwhelming. It was, according to our friends and fans, the best stuff we'd ever done. Record companies began calling, radio stations were casually announcing the pending arrival of a new Marcy album, and our website bulletin board was abuzz with activity. Me... I was in a state of quiet hysteria...

YACHAY...

YACHAY is pronounced 'YAH chai,' and is derived from Quechua, the language of the Inkas.

YACHAY is a sonic two piece vehicle born from the love of the Mother Planet.... When Jeff and William met up in the jungles of Peru, they had given up playing music...at least, playing music with popular touring bands. Instead, they immersed themselves in shamanic experiences in the rain forest that ultimately would lead them right back to what they'd left behind. In short, they were bombarded on every sensory level with the vital importance that the vibratory rate of sound plays in the creation of reality...not simply in human terms...but for all life on Planet Earth. When they eventually returned to the United States, they decided to see what would happen if they applied their sonic-shamanic experiences to a musical vehicle...and YACHAY was born. What they quickly discovered as they started to play out was that people everywhere are still hungry for what's real..in their ears, in their hearts, in their lives.

LISA WALKER...

A number of albums put nature sounds and music together and they generally fit one of three categories. Either the nature sound is just spliced with the music for effect, the musician does a call and response kind of playback with birds and animals, or the musician composes, using the nature sounds as an integrated part of the music.
This later approach is what Lisa Walker does quite stunningly. Lisa recognizes the natural beauty of the whales' songs and they inspire her amazing original compositions using violin with specially built waterproof speakers so that her sound will resonate with the whales' natural landscape. Her effort is unique in that she has taken into consideration the seasonal variation of the songs, the sonic character of different underwater canyons and she uses loops and samples to modulate the sound and emphasize the musicality in more dramatic fashion. Lisa Walker shows a deep under-standing of her subject and a remarkable capacity for innovation. If you like deep space or ambient music, this one is definitely one you will want to hear. - New Age Voice January 2002

LIZZIE WEST AND THE WHITE BUFFALO...

Lizzie West has been writing and singing the songs of the holy road since she can remember. Her Independent release, the original "Holy Road" (available on line now), was followed by the re-make release on Warner Bros. Records. In 2003 Lizzie was named AOL and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY'S "Artist Of The Year." In 2004, she Independently released her her limited edition EP "Something Good Has Begun" to her fan base around the world. Lizzie's recordings have been used excessively in film and television. She has been featured, singing her song, "holy road" in a Spike Lee commercial, performed The National Anthem at Madison Square Garden, toured as an opener for Chris Isaak and other Nationals as well as headlining her own national tour. Lizzie's new album,"I Pledge Allegiance To Myself " (Appleseed Records) is due for release in April, 2006. Lizzie West and The White Buffalo will tour the world to support the new album while hosting their Podcast Radio show, "The Holy Road Medicine Show" from their Mobile Venue "The Holy Road Trading Post." Please see www.lizziewestlife.com for a full and colorful breakdown of Lizzie's journey, which includes TV episodes, videos and much more.

Anthony Kieraldo is The White Buffalo. At 24, Tony plays piano like a master, anything else you put into his hands like an old pro, writes like a hero and sings like a baba. He's studied a lot of music, played in many bands and now he takes to the holy road with Lizzie West and The Dharma Dog, while co-producing the road show, podcasts, vicasts and web site.Check out more details about the young american artist at lizziewestlife.com

C3...

The Convergence Conspiracy Collective is an ensemble of musicians and artists formed near the end of 2002 with a desire to express a unified vision of radically transformed consciousness: a human race which "gets it", which has somehow miraculously grown up and come to its senses. Ridiculous, yes, we know. Such a thing could never happen, right? Impossible, and only fools would choose to believe in such a thing. Right. Well, happy fools are we.
